What else do I ever write about on this blog? I seldom write about sports unless it is to gloat over what my beloved reigning World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals have most recently accomplished (which in a .500 season, I haven't written much lately). I never really talk about politics as there seems to be enough offense taken whenever anyone writes about what they believe (either because they are too pedantic and over the top about it, or insensitive in how they write it, or because we somehow in our culture today so easily get offended when someone writes something that not everyone believes in). I occasionally will talk about my faith but hardly ever about theology because (well, see above about politics).
And so, I end up talking about my kids. And to be honest, for most people who follow this blog, that is all that they are interested in hearing about (they could care less about my thoughts on the Cardinals, or my political or theological leanings). And so, since it's been a while, let me give you an update on the kids. And instead of starting with the oldest, I'll start with the youngest.
Kate will turn 4 years old in 2 short weeks. It is hard to believe. It seems like just yesterday we were returning from China. But she is really growing up. She still has some delays, but is coming along quiet nicely. Her words for the most part are very clear. Especially when she tells somebody off. Which is becoming often. She certainly can defend herself! And although she is Chinese, I could swear she has Italtian blood because she can hardly talk without making some sort of hand and arm motions. But I digress. This past year she participated in gymnastics and is currently loving Vacation Bible School.
Amy will be 5 this fall. September 11th be exact. And I am because she tells just about everyone that she will be 5 on September 11th. She is looking forward to this because that means that she will officially have started school - homeschool. Marti has her work cut out for her. Amy has a voracious appetite to learn. It is amazing to watch. She loves to draw and color and create. She also loves to look at books and be read to. She too did gymnastics this year and is looking forward to a dance summer school.
Sam has completed his 5th grade year at Greenwood Christian Academy. It was the first year Marti has had off in 13 years. Sam had some challenges this year but persevered and made some great progress. He continues to work with an educational specialist to work on some learning disabilities but we are so thankful for what God has accomplished in his life this year. He finished another season of baseball though it wasn't as successful as in years past. But he is looking forward to a summer baseball camp coming up soon.
Ben now has his driver's license. GULP. But he has done quite well and is making great strides as a young driver. He had a successful first year at Jamestown High School. He made all A's except for one B. Not bad. Especially since he missed quite a bit of class time due to surgery and rehab on his right shoulder (that he hurt playing football, but we won't go into that). He is becoming a dependable solid young man.
Sarah is currently in China as I write this. She is on a mission trip with some classmates from school. They are working with Chinese undergraduate and graduate students. Their team is teaching foundational classes in Economics, politics, media, and culture. Pretty heady stuff. But she and her teammates put in hours upon countless hours since January preparing for this trip. We are so proud of her.
And so, that is my "short" summary of what the kids are up to these days.
Hopefully I will get to this more often and keep shorter more frequent updates on the kids.
I for one love to hear your thoughts on everything including politics and theology, although with sports, I will give you, I am still a little burned about last years World Series... hahaha But yes, the kids have to be my most favorite, so thanks for the updates! I'm really proud of those little whippersnappers!
