Well, I finally set a new PR (personal record) in the marathon today. I broke my old PR (set 10 years ago in my first marathon, the Kiawah Marathon) by a whole 2 seconds! Yep, that's right, after running 26.2 miles I was only able to break my old record by 2 seconds. I'm so glad I didn't have to visit a Porta-Potty along the way...that would have really bummed me out.
Today's race was the Richmond Marathon. It was a beautiful day with low temps (in the 40s at the start) and sunny the whole way. There was only a slight breeze. The course is very beautiful running through the really nice parts of Richmond as well as running along the James River. The last .2 miles of the race is downhill which was really nice. I was really pleased with the run.
Of course, my run was helped out by my wonderful wife who once again came out with the little ones and cheered me at different points of the race. I really think those give a runner a boost and help bring encouragement along the way.
After the race, I went home and took an ice bath to help out with the post-race muscle soreness (which wasn't too bad; in fact, I feel the best I have after any race). I then took a little nap. Afterwards, I took Sarah and Sam to Five Guys where I consumed two double cheeseburgers with fries and then capped the meal off with 3 scoops of chocolate peanut butter ice cream from Kilwins.
So, I look forward to a good nights rest. Even though I only broke my PR by two seconds I take a lot of comfort knowing that I am a little bit faster at (almost) 41 years of age than I was at 30 years of age. Now, if I can just repeat this same feat when I'm 50!
So what was the time?!!!
Way to go brother Tim!!
