Defensive Lineman of the Game

Ben won the Defensive Lineman of the Game in the Clam Bowl (I'm not kidding about the name of the game) yesterday against the Poquoson Islanders.  It was the last home game for the team from Poquoson and they have named that game the Clam Bowl.  Despite 10 tackles and one forced fumble, Ben came away from the game a little disappointed as the Hornets lost 6-0.  However, it was definitely his best defensive game and it has been fun watching him improve week after week on the defensive side of the game.

On offense, Ben was only able to carry the ball 3 times for 15 hard fought yards.  As has been the problem for the Hornets all year, they were not able to string together any sustained drives.  It was another frustrating loss for the boys as they held their own on defense but were unable to punch it in on offense.

Next week Ben plays his final game as a Hornet.

Quick Update

I've just finished working 4 nights in a row.  Still a bit tired, but it was a good week.  Sam finished up his "fall-ball" this week so that will slow things down a bit.  Ben's football season is also winding down; he has two games remaining as they won't be going to the play-offs.  They played in a thriller last weekend and lost a heart-breaker 14-6.  Ben was "beast" on defense with 9 tackles including a sack.  He also made an awesome block that allowed his running back to pick up 75 yards on one play.

Sarah continues to work hard in school.  She also started a blog this week that I highly recommend.  It is a blog for her photography.  Check it out at Little Princess Photography .She is working hard the next couple of days as she travels to New York City next week to visit the King's College NYC.  Marti and I are looking forward to traveling with her to check out the school and the city.

The little girls are a bit under the weather with runny noses and fevers.  Thankfully no one else has been hit yet.

Marti has been working hard this week on putting together a Sunday School training session tomorrow.  Even though she has finished up at Director of Children's Ministry at church, she is helping do this training as there isn't a new Director in place.  It will be a good session as this is something that Marti is very compentent in doing.

 

Mid-October Update

It's been a while since I last updated the blog.  I've been busy with either work or taking the boys to ball games.  Not that I'm complaining, I'm just sayin'!  Anyway, despite the full schedule, we have had some pretty good family times along the way.

Sam's team has split their last several games.  Sam continues to be a solid offensive player usually drawing at least one walk per game as well as getting a nice hit each game.  He can usually steal a few bases and score once or twice a game.  A few games ago he pitched an inning and despite giving up 2 runs, he racked up 3 strike-outs.  He has enjoyed the fall ball and we will continue to work on hitting and fielding during the winter.

Ben's football team has been shut out the last two games to fall to 3-4.  Ben has made some nice tackles and a few good runs, but the other teams were bigger and stronger and really shut down the Hornet offense.  But Ben's coaches haven't given up and have  some serious changes in the offense this week.  Ben says the boys have worked hard and hope to earn their fourth win this weekend.

Sarah has been busy completing her applications to school as well as working on a scholarship award essay.  She just received her acceptance letter to Covenant College so she is excited to be 2 for 2 in the application process. We travel to The King's College in NYC in a few weeks.  I think she is going to make a decision between either King's or Covenant.  We are really proud of her. Last weekend, besides the ball games, all except the little girls went to the Tim Hawkins Comedy Concert at the Kimball Theater.  If you haven't checked him out he is hilarious.  You can either go to YouTube and look up Tim Hawkins, or go to his website at timhawkins.net. 

Today we went to Pumpkinville here in Williamsburg.  We all had a great time.  The weather is cool and we enjoyed a couple of hours walking through the pumpkin patch, taking a hayride, walking through a corn field maze, and picking out pumpkins.  The pictures in this post are all from today.

The fall is one of my favorite times of year.  I love wearing hoodies, seeing the colors change, and running in the cooler weather.  I hope you enjoy the pictures and the change in the season wherever you are.

Kindergarten Drop-Out Accepted to College

We just returned from dinner-out as we celebrated the good news that Sarah has been accepted to The King’s College in New York City. Although she has by no means decided to attend, it was an encouragement to her that of the two schools she has applied to she has already been accepted.  We know this is only the first step in a multi-step process, but it is a big step for her.

While we were eating, we realized that Sarah was a former “Kindergarten Drop-Out.”  When we first started home-schooling, Sarah was only 4 years old.  Although she was only 4 she seemed eager to start school.  But, as we soon learned, she wasn’t quite ready.  She loved to be read to, but she didn’t quite like learning her ABC’s.  Thinking about it now it’s pretty funny; back then it didn’t seem quite so.  After a few weeks we decided that we could forgo K-4 and wait another year to start Kindergarten.  Ever since, Sarah has been quite the student!

Anyway, we are happy for Sissy tonight.  We know that God has great plans for her and we look forward to seeing what they are.  Great job Sissy!
