It has only been 10 days since my last post but it seems like it has been forever. We have been extremely busy during this time period and I am just now getting a chance to catch my breath. That is probably an exaggeration as I am only getting a chance to sit and write because it is only quarter til midnight and I still have two more hours before I go to bed (I work nights starting Monday night so I am adjusting my sleep schedule). Anyway...enough about that, let's try to get y'all caught up on what's going on around here.
When I last wrote, I was lamenting Sam's playoff loss. He has since recovered, by like the next morning! Nine year old boys are awesome that way. He went to a friends house while I worked and forgot all about the "awfulness" of losing. It was a good lesson for me.
Marti and all the girls returned last Friday night. Saturday Sarah spent all day at dance prepping for her Year End Revue for dance which was on Sunday. As usual we thought she did a great job. She looks so pretty and elegant up there on stage. We have some footage I wanted to post of her Modern Ballet piece but she doesn't want it posted here. However, if you are interested, it is posted on YouTube, entitled, "Sarah's Modern Ballet 2010." It is really hard to believe that she has been dancing for 14 years.
This past week Ben has been in North Carolina working for my father-in-law who was remodeling their new condo. Ben helped build a new art room as well as put in hardwood floors. He says he worked all day long getting up at 6am and going to bed at 10pm. I am inclined to believe him knowing my father-in-law. Ben seemed to enjoy most of the time spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Also this past week, Ben found out he scored a class best 100% on his Junior High History Research paper. I do have to say that it was written well above an 8th grade level and we were proud of his hard work.
Speaking of hard work, Marti and the older kids have worked extremely hard this past week at church getting everything ready for Vacation Bible School which starts Monday. Marti has done a tremendous job planning, organizing, communicating, praying, and leading the efforts for this. We really pray that God will be glorified in all that is done this week at church. Hopefully we can get some pictures up of the proceedings this week.
Besides working 3 shifts this week, I have spent two whole days doing errands getting ready for our upcoming vacation to Kiawah Island. We leave Friday afternoon. We are so excited. It will be a much needed (and I think deserved) vacation. Everyone in this house has really worked hard over the past several months in school, work, and church. It will be good to have no agenda or tasks to do for two whole weeks.
And finally, we have had the pleasure to host my good friend Thomas and his wife this weekend. Thomas was one of the students I mentored and discipled in Kenya. He has spent the past year in Seattle at the University of Washington working on his Master's in Public Health (MPH) with a focus in AIDS Research. It has been great to hear of his progress as well as meet his wonderful new wife. He has been a blessing to all of us as it has reminded us of how God works in and through our lives. It will be sad for them to leave tomorrow after such a short visit.
Anyway, that is a long roundup of what's been up around here. Pray for us this week, especially for the VBS going on at church.
PS>>>>I forgot to thank all my wonderful kids for their great Father's Day gifts. The boys got me a golf shirt and a yellow shirt with a tie, the little girls gave me a Bill Bryson book about Shakespeare, and Sarah gave me some great cologne and aftershave balm from Bath and Body Works. Marti gave me all these wonderful kids!
PSS>>>>I also forgot to mention that Marti and I celebrated yet another anniversary (21 to be exact). I sent Marti 18 red roses (give ProFlowers.com a try, I was really impressed) as well as took her out to The Trellis here in Williamsburg. We had a good evening even in the midst of all the busyness of this past week.
Way to go Ben! That was a very impressive paper, yes. Well deserved!
