It has only taken me a week to write about our Easter weekend, but it was a wonderful and memorable weekend that I still wanted to give folks an update. Somehow I ended up with a three day weekend so that in and of itself made for a nice weekend. But when you throw in the incredible weather (summer like without the humidity), the family time, AND the celebration of the Resurrection, it made for a nearly perfect time.
Friday was spent preparing the house for a Jane Austen night. Marti and Sarah had invited 6 women from church to come for a dinner and movie. The girls did a fantastic job on the menu and decor. When it was time for the evening to start, I took the boys and the little girls out. While we had fun at the park and then at Chick-Fil-A, the ladies enjoyed the scrumptious meal, fellowship, and the 4 hour edition of Emma by Jane Austen.
Saturday, I started the day with an eight mile run. After the run and eating breakfast, I took Sam to baseball practice. I threw batting practice and the scrimmage; I probably threw over 250 pitches. Granted, it was only to 9 year old boys, but my arm (especially my elbow) was tired by the end of practice. After returning home and the little girls were done with their naps, we ALL got on our bikes (the little ones were in a bike trailer) and headed down the road to the local park. We then enjoyed a picnic dinner. This was a lot of fun.
To end the evening, we watched a musical by the Covenant Life Youth (Gaithersburg, Maryland). It was titled Pilgrim and was a modern adaptation of the classic Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. It was a powerful message to watch especially as we prepared ourselves for Easter Sunday.
Sunday was an incredible blessing. Not only did we get to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection (HE IS ALIVE), but we made even more memories as a family. After church (and while the little girls and their mama took a nap), I took a bike ride with Sarah, Ben, and Sam down to Colonial Williamsburg and ate lunch at Aromas. Later that evening we all joined around the table to enjoy a family meal.
Even though we are busier with five kids, I find myself learning to "slow down" and savor these types of weekends. They won't last forever. But oh how sweet they are when we do get to enjoy them. God is Good.
