It is hard to believe that Sarah celebrated her 17th birthday yesterday. It seems just yesterday I was taking her to Steven W's in Newberry for a Father and Daughter Birthday Date. She was only 11 then. Each year passes and it seems to go faster and faster. I am proud of her; she is growing into a beautiful young lady with a wonderful personality. I was okay with her turning 16. But 17 sounds a lot older. I am sure I will be a mess by the time she turns 18!
Anyway, we had a wonderful birthday celebration despite the snowy/rainy day outside. Marti did an outstanding job of putting together a great lunch with beautiful decorations. We used some of the china that Sarah has been collecting (her Grandma Burchel has been giving her plates, cups, and saucers from her collection...I guess this is the pattern Sarah will have as an adult). Anyway, we had all kinds of heavy hors d'oeuvres, birthday cupcakes, and tea.
Then of course we opened presents. Sarah, despite her "age", still loves dolls. Besides some nice clothes and jewelry, she enjoyed opening her American Girls doll, Julie. I now believe she has the whole original set. And, she also enjoyed getting a new toilet seat (don't ask); you can see those pictures in the photo album to the right.
After cleaning up the dishes we rested for a while then Marti, Sarah, and I went out to dinner. We stopped first at Barnes and Nobles for a bit. We then went to one of the best places in town, Opus 9. It has incredible food with an outstanding atmosphere. When I made reservations they asked if we were celebrating anything special and I told them about Sarah's birthday. They had our table set with a special card. It was a wonderful way to end the day.
Anyway, we love Sissy and hope the very best for her this coming year. It will be a big year for her. She will take her SAT this spring, should get her driver's license in the summer, and start her Senior year in High School this fall. She will start looking at colleges this summer as well. I know it is an exciting time for her. I just want things to "slow" down a bit...but that is being dad.
Sissy, I love you. Happy Birthday. And have a great year.
PS...more great pictures from the Birthday party on in the photo album Sarah is 17.
Wow, I cannot believe it! It was just a couple of months ago I was talking to Marti and Sarah at Disney! But I guess a "couple" turned out to be 12. I can't believe she is 17... What a classy young lady.
Happy Birthday Sario!
