We are finally in the dog-days of summer here in Virginia. This past Monday the temperatures made it to triple digits...100 degrees (not including humidity). Ben's football practice was cancelled. Happily the air conditioner was fixed last week before the heat wave moved in.
Over the past 10 days we have had guests just about every night. That has been a blessing. We hosted a missionary family from Kenya (the kid's best friends during our time in Kenya), old friends from back in our Greenwood days (Residency training), and my brother and two of his kids. We love having visitors spend a night or two or three, so if you are in the neighborhood let us know...we'll leave the light on for you!
Also this week, Sarah joined me at the Lackey Free Clinic here in York County. It is a medical clinic providing awesome care to the uninsured and indigent. I usually help out once a month in their walk-in clinics. The clinic has 4 exam rooms, a pharmacy, one dental room, and a chaplain's office. Besides the walk in clinics they more importantly have a chronic care clinic that takes care of people with chronic diseases...diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, asthma, etc. It is a blessing to participate in this clinic.
Speaking of Sarah, she flew out to St. Louis yesterday to spend time with Nana and Paw Paw. It sounds like she is going to have an awesome time...they are shopping today, going to Busch Stadium tomorrow night to see the Cardinals, and Saturday they are spending the day at the Fox Theater in St. Louis where they will tour the theater as well as watch the Off-Broadway show, Mary Poppins.
I have the next couple of days off before starting a string of 4 nights in a row Saturday night so I am taking it easy.
