The other day, I received an email from my cousin. Although he is married and has a son, I still think of him as a kid. He wouldn't like that, but I still just see him that way. Anyway, ever since he was in Junior High, he wanted to be a conductor. He has accomplished that goal and now has several roles in the St. Petersburg area. He recently was an assistant conductor at a performance in New York City at Carnegie Hall. In the email I mentioned, he sent a recording of his orchestra and chorale performing O Fortuna. It was excellent. After listening to this wonderful performance a couple of times, I wrote the following email. I think it is a wonderful reminder to all of us the value and wonder of working as unto the Lord.
"Maestro,
THAT WAS AWESOME. I played it this morning and all us were amazed that it was "only" high school kids. We all send our sincerest cheers and congratulations. We are very proud of you. When you "cut" your first CD, please send us a copy.
Just this morning I was reading an article titled "Making Dog Food for the Glory of God." It talked about the very issues we discussed when you stayed at our place a couple of summers ago. It said regardless of whether we work for a dog-food company, automaker, hotel chain, etc, we are to do our work as unto the Lord. Our primary work in life is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Since He has made us in His image, we are made to be creative people, who are curious about life and pursue to explore, understand, and take dominion over every aspect of life. That includes the work we do. So be encouraged in the work you are doing whether it is for the school district, the Men's Chorale, or a church - you are doing it all for His glory.
By the way, the article was published in the magazine ByFaith. It was the May/June 2005 issue. I think they have an online version at www.byfaithonline.com. Check to see if the article is listed. I think you will enjoy it. "
