The Lord's Day has always been special to us. We have always been a family who enjoys going to church and worshipping together with other believers. It has never been a day that we have dreaded or wondered what we would do. But since Marti's parents moved here, Sunday's have become even more special. We always meet for lunch (Grandpa's treat) on Sunday after church. Then we always go over to their house in the evening for supper.
I guess I enjoy it so much because it reminds me of my childhood Sundays. We would go to church with Grandmother and Granddaddy. Then we would always have lunch together at Grandmother's. And we would always have the same thing every Sunday for lunch - black eyed peas, cole slaw, deviled eggs, apple sauce, pork, beef, sometimes fried chicken, macaroni salad, biscuits, greenbeans, sweet tea, and so on. Then, after resting at home in the afternoon, we would go to Granny and Granddad's for snacks. We would watch some sitcoms or 60 minutes. I would read the Sunday newspaper. We would have some homemade treat that Granny made. And then we would go home, go to bed, and start back to our weekly routine.
There is something to be said about routine. It is kind of funny that we are now getting to experience this similar routine for Sunday's here in Kenya. Who would have ever thought when we moved to Kenya that we would be blessed to have at least one set of Grandparents right around the block (ok, 10 minutes away) for us to enjoy our Sunday's together.
And just so my parents don't feel left out in this post about routine, we also truly enjoy our weekly phone call on Sunday's. Their phone calls really have helped sustain us and keep us sane our first few months when we moved here. Sunday routine is a good, nay, great thing.
