Psalm 146:3,5-10
Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
The Lord shall reign forever - Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!
As I was reading these verses today, I was reminded about the big picture of being here in Kenya. As we anticipate the arrival of our container, and worry about what will happen in Customs, and wishing that I had a "tall brother" (A Kenyan expression meaning someone powerful or high up) to help us through this aspect of our journey, I realized that we are told NOT to put our trust in men, but in God. And more importantly than being concerned about where our hope comes from, we are to be reminded of how powerful and awesome this God is. Not only did He create the universe, but He alone is concerned about the rich and poor alike. We are reminded that our Helper tends not only to our physical needs but to the greater needs in this world: justice, truth, freedom, healing, comfort, protection, and companionship.
He alone is good. We should praise Him.
Even if Customs wants to prolong and make life difficult for us..
