Last night I "made" dinner. Yes, that's right, I was responsible for satisfying the hunger needs of my family. Marti and Sarah had a girls day out and were not going to be back until just after dark. When Marti called to let me know she was on her way home, I asked "what is for dinner?". Why do men ask such silly questions when THEY are the ones standing in the kitchen? Anyway, she made a few suggestions such as ham and cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese, or maybe soup. Those were all within my culinary expertise, but I was hungerier than a sandwich. What was I to do?
Reflexively, I decided on take out. But I didn't really want to go out and get it. Besides, I needed to oversee the boys getting a proper bath for Sunday. What is a person to do in the middle of Africa when he needs a quick meal? Well, believe or not, I called Dial A Delivery. I ordered the Family Meal from Nando's, a type of Kentucky Fried Chicken. The Family Meal included a whole chicken ("would you like it cut, sir?), one large "chips" (french fries), coleslaw, a 2 Liter of Sprite, and 4 small desserts. I was told it would arrive in about 40 minutes.
Well, right on time, I heard the delivery guy arrive at the gate. As I opened the door, he was getting off of his 250cc Yamaha "piki-piki" (motorcycle) with a large insulated cooler on the back fender. He opened it up, handed me the bill, and the 2 bags of food (still very warm), and the bottle of soda. I was so happy. Having delivered pizza in college, I made sure that I gave him a nice tip. He was happy to! As he pulled away on his motorbike, I shook my head and smiled. Dial A Delivery. In Kenya. A nice warm meal for the whole family for.$12.50. Yep, very happy.
(P.S. Just because there is a Dial A Delivery in Africa, does not mean that we aren't "suffering for the Lord!")
I just stumbled on your site (God's good grace being the likely culprit) and wanted to thank you for it.
Kenya is a dear place to me and I hope to return soon.
In the meantime, you're in our prayers and I'll stop by the blog often.
One last thing....Go Sox (sorry, had to do it) :)

At the beginning of this year, a pizza delivery place opened not far from us. And. . . they actually make yummy pizza! (Until now, the pizza we've had here has been ketchup on dough, usually slathered with something weird like calamari.)
Yep, it's been nice to be "spoiled" by the availibility of a pizza delivery service.
