What do you do when you wake and realize that you have only 2 more weeks until you leave the country you grew up in? How do you organize your day to make sure that everything is lined up ready for your departure?
Well, not that I am an expert on this, but I am living in this reality. Life as we know it will change quite a bit 2 weeks when we board the British Airway flight from Charlotte to Chicago and then on to London. Today started as a typical morning with Sam running in to wake us up. It continued to be normal as I fixed my oatmeal and coffee. It took a decidedly different direction when I pulled the Rabies vaccine out of the refrigderator and mixed the solution and then let my 11 year daughter give me the injection. A rabies vaccine, given by your daughter? Yes, it is true.
We are in the middle of our series of 3 shots and I missed the appointment last week. I was given the vaccine to keep in the fridge. I was supposed to take it with me to the VA and have a nurse there give me the injection. But I forgot. So I asked my wife to do it but she declined. I then asked my daughter who has helped me in the ER with some sutures, injections, iv's, etc. She did a great job.
It continued down the surreal path as I ordered Christmas presents on line to be able to take with me to Kenya. I then "cashed" in some Airline miles for contributions to the college savings for the kids. After this, I began to make plans to sell my minivan.
After lunch, I had more passport size photos made to send to Africa to start working on my work permit. I then went to the bank and changed my address and to open a safe deposit box. I finished off the day answering emails from around the world.
It seems both "natural" and weird to be doing all of these things. I wonder what the next 13 days will bring?
