My eight year old wakes me today with these words, "Daddy, guess what? We have a ball game today."
Struggling through school assignments. Thinking about the game tonight.
"Daddy, can we go to the batting cage today?"
The rain starts mid-day. No hesitation. Game preparation. Hopeful optimism.
"Daddy, they didn't call to cancel the game. The sun is coming out. Let's go to the game."
Sun shining. Field dry. EMPTY stands. Empty parking lot. Empty ballfield.
"Daddy, don't worry. Maybe they're just late. Maybe they'll come."
Disappointment. Sad eyes. Maybe a tear. Unrealized dreams. Unfulfilled anticipation.
But only momentary...
"Daddy, look at the cool rainbow!"
Rapid recovery. Laughter!
