I am exhausted, but I am encouraged. I returned yesterday from a medical meeting in Peru. It was hosted by the Medical Department at MTW. It was an intense conference. I learned a lot. I still have some "cobwebs" from traveling but the following are some of my reactions.
First, the trip made me even more eager to get to Kenya. Even though we were in Cusco, Peru, just being in a different culture doing medical work "wet my appetite" for more. I felt at home there (even as I really missed Marti and the kids). I have a renewed desire to raise our support and get there. Pray for us.
Second, I am proud of the Medical Department at Mission to the World. We have physicians doing full time missions all over the globe. We are doing a variety of ministries from running a clinic, to working in Community Health, to academic medicine. We have a variety of specialities represented. We have more short term teams going around the world than Doctors Without Borders or Christian Medical and Dental Society. Much is going on and it is good. Pray for the Medical Department at MTW.
Third, God is an awesome God. The beauty of Peru confirmed this. The Andes Mountains were breath taking. The variety of vistas was incredible. He is to be praised.
Lastly, we need a vacation. I am learning that mission work is a marathon, not a sprint. Too often this year we have wanted to sprint to the "Finish Line" of support raising. However, I am realizing that this is only the first few miles of a long race. We want to run the race in a worthy manner. To do so, we need to pace ourselves appropriately. Pray for us in this.
